I'm a VJ at the ABC in Regional WA. Most of the time I record on our P2 cameras but I'm using my Lumis G85 a lot, to try to find another 'look' to the video camera, so having good audio is a must.
Clean audio is so essential when shooting outside, and although the VideoMic R is a lower priced model the sound quality is excellent. It handles wind well (up to a point), and it's surprisingly clear, far surpassing the inbuilt Lumix microphone.
The directional characteristics are super useful when catching ambient sound...all round a great value for money addition.

I use this for my YouTube make up tutorials and it's perfect :)
Very happy with the quality and it's so adorable too.

Easy to mount. Light weight. Very senstive, I found that it picked up birds singing from outside a closed location. This was fine though as I also had lapels on the talent.

Overall, an excellent addition to the camera I use. I'll note that with the camera on auto gain control mode, it tends to clip a fair bit. I set the level manually, and it was excellent.

The Rode Shotgun mic is an awesome mic for the money.
Even though its designed for the DSLR market it give you clear crisp sound.

This directional mic is perfect for 1:1 interviews in outdoor environments, or when you need to focus on the interviewee without background distraction.

The audio beats the pants off the on-board mic every time.

The reason I purchased this mic was to use it as a boom mic. I attached it to the boom arm of my head light stand using a Manfrotto 3/8" to 1/4" adaptor to a GoPro round bar mount. I then ran 6 m of stereo 3.5 mm extension cable straight to my Canon D7000.

The first time I used it I was lucky I had a lapel mic recording secondary audio in to an iPod just in case. Lucky I did because when I went to import the video to Premiere Pro, there was a lot of clipping. Rookie mistake with audio settings on the camera - although the mic does allow you to drop the dB level.

I use this mic with a DSLR, mounted on the flash shoe mount. I use it to capture audio either in noisy environments or when my subjects are further away than the camera mount can capture clearly. I've now had and been using the mic for the last month or so.

The product works well for the uses I have described, and I suspect would be even better if I mounted it to a boom pole. On auto-mic settings (on the camera) it pics up the sound really well and improves a lot on the camera's built in mic.

The build quality appears to be pretty solid, the only thing that felt a little light is the mount to the flash shoe cam. It's made of a light plastic and my concern was that when screwing it down to the flash shoe mount it might break. That said, it works and the mic is light, so im not expecting any problems.

I was hoping for truly directional sound and to cut down on background noise, and whilst it achieves it didn't quite meet what I had thought it would do - I suspect that's more to do with my high expectations. I also think if it did cut down any further directionally, then it would be difficult to manage - so this is a good balance. Don't expect the product to cut down wind noise, it still happens, but I would guess a fluffy mic attachment would stop that.

So all in all, a really good, well-built product. Good price, good service and good delivery times.

I used it during a wedding ceremony, clear audio from the wedding party at some distance away.
Greatly improved sound from a musical performance on a stage, again recorded from some distance away.

There is a green light on all the time, even when it's not on, this is just to show battery ... So make sure the mic is switched on when recording!! We lost a few scenes due to this. It works pretty well as a boom mic, field mic and we even recorded ADR on it. Very happy with the quality for the price. Also very light and unobtrusive. We will buy another.

I had marvellous results when recording a wedding and the mother of the groom spoke about 8 metre away, with the on board microphone the voice would have been lost, but with this microphone it was perfectly legible.

I have only used this mic for one projects so far, which took place mostly indoors. So, I haven't yet tested it out against wind or really loud audio or anything. So far, I have no complaints. As long as you remember to switch the thing on, it's the easiest piece of equipment to use. The sounds quality is nice and clear. Seems to have a good battery life, it outlasted the camera anyway.
I would definitely recommend this to a friend thinking of buying a simple, effective and cheap microphone.
