Comments about Roland R05 Portable 24bit Digital Audio Recorder:

I bought the Roland R05 to use for recording podcasts in the field where bulky equipment is not appropriate. Its small size is perfect for my use as it can be easily carried in a pocket. The sound quality is more than sufficient for podcasting as the limits are going to be the operators microphone technique, and the sound environment of the recording venue. For my purpose I cannot fault this bit of gear.

Comments about Roland R05 Portable 24bit Digital Audio Recorder:

I've used this product to record audio for broadcast radio. It came out with some great sound from interviews and is very light weight. It comes with a USB cable so you don't have to eject the SD card all the time.
The start up takes a bit longer than I'd like but once on is very responsive. And all for a great price!

With the addition of a shotgun mic, this piece of kit is very handy for recording wildlife sounds including bird and frog calls. The quality of the recordings is good enough for immediate playback if required or to tidy up and keep as reference samples for future analysis.

Comments about Roland R05 Portable 24bit Digital Audio Recorder:

I have had the unit for only two days and am confident that I made the right decision. I was looking to get the zoom h4n but after some research on the web and a bit of sensible thinking I went with Roland. The mikes are omni directional and can pick up a sparrows fart at twenty meters, It has a very easy to use interface, it can convert to mp3's at varied bitrates, it has good battery life and It has a peak indicator which i think is great. the unit is solid also. You can still hear buttons being pressed when you record with the built in speakers, but any device with built ins will probably do that. My only negative would be that I have found that transferring large files to a computer takes time but possibly a faster SDHC card might fix that. All in all i love the little thing, it has real class.

Comments about Roland R05 Portable 24bit Digital Audio Recorder:

The Roland R-05 is a competitor amongst the growing number of compact portable audio recorders on the market. The R-05 is the successor to Roland's popular R-09, and is great value. The unit can record up to 24 bit, 96Khz audio in WAV or MP3 formats, and has excellent built-in stereo condenser microphones. What impressed me the most about this device is how simple it is to operate. It makes location audio recording analogous to still photography in terms of its accessibility. Anyone who is familiar with the tiresome task of carrying DAT recorders, microphones and XLR cables in the field will appreciate this.

Typical of Roland, the build quality of the R-05 is superb and the unit is designed with functionality as a primary concern. All the components appear to be of a high quality, and its ability to reproduce clear sound is testament to this. The device is powered by two AA batteries, which are easily replaceable and provide up to sixteen hours of recording.

Uploading your files to a PC or Mac is easy via USB 2.0 and does not require any additional software. A 2GB SD card is included, so you can start recording straight away. The R-05 has standard features such as 3.5mm MIC and Line-in sockets, and a level limiter, while extras such as a tripod mounting socket make it easier to capture sounds in challenging locations. The R-05 is suited to capturing natural sounds such as birds, insects and waves, as well as urban sounds including machines and trains.

                    Hi Josh,

All those products are now linked under the accessories tab of the recorder itself. Just add the products you need to your shopping cart & request quote that way.

We have some in stock, the other parts will take 2-3 days to source in currently.

No. The usb is only for downloading, or connecting to a computer. You need a standard microphone with a 3.5mm jack to work with this unit.

I am wanting to purchase a recorder that will plug straight into my DJ mixer to record my DJ set. I don't want to do it onto a laptop I would rather just record straight to a small unit like this. Can you plug this into a mixer? Or does it record externally only via the microphones?
If so can you recommend something that meets my needs?
