Comments about Zoom H2n Handy Recorder - Portable Digital Recorder:
My first use of the H2n was to record audio at a wedding, I am so glad I did. I placed the recorder on a tripod positioned it between the choir and the "couple" and used the 4 channel setting. The sound was awesome and I was able to seperate the two sound sources out afterwards which was extremely useful. I had a home made "dead cat" and I needed it, without it there is too much wind noise. I am extremely pleased with this recorder. I have also used it for voice overs attached to the PC using Adobe Premiere and again very happy with the results. I can happily recommend this recorder to budding enthusiasts as an introduction to better quality audio and a lot of fun.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
Comments about Zoom H2n Handy Recorder - Portable Digital Recorder:
This small device records high quality sound with a pleasing stereo depth, without the phase problems that can affect a multi-mic setup. My criticisms are minor: the shiny black plastic finish seems fragile and the menu buttons are small and fiddly. Overall though, the Zoom H2n is well-designed and easy to use. Ideal for musicians or anyone who needs to record audio on-the-fly, it may even find a place in professional projects.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I believe the Zoom H4n can auto-record when sound begins
Answered on 16/9/2013 by Anon from Melbourne, Vic
It does have an auto-record feature. The following is from the manual: "After the home screen reopens, press to put the recorder in standby. Recording will start automatically when the input signal exceeds the REC START LEVEL. Recording will stop automatically when the input signal becomes less than the REC STOP LEVEL."
