Intensity Shuttles innovative design is compact and portable, plus you can plug inline with your cables because input connections are on one side, and output connections on the other! Intensity Shuttle is powered over the Thunderbolt cable so you dont need cumbersome power supplies. Intensity Shuttle uses the same high quality electronics as Blackmagic Design's high end capture and playback solutions.
Thunderbolt enabled computers connect to Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt using a single cable that is capable of 10 Gbps data transfer speeds, thats 20x faster than USB 2.0 and 12x faster than FireWire 800. Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt is powered over the Thunderbolt cable and with no need for an external power supply, is a completely portable device that can be moved easily between laptop and desktop computers.
Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt uses the same high quality electronics as Blackmagic Designs high end broadcast capture and playback solutions! Now its possible to capture live game play, archive family movies and create amazing videos in full broadcast quality 1080HD video! Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolts HDMI output can be connected to large screen HDTVs and projectors for full high resolution monitoring and playback of your work!
Most consumer video cameras compress HD video to fit longer recordings on to tapes and discs. For video editing compressed media needs to be decoded to play back each frame of video and this puts additional strain on a computers CPU and limits real time editing effects. Capturing directly with Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt bypasses camera compression by recording directly from the cameras image sensor, so a low cost consumer camera can be used to capture full HD resolution video in broadcast quality!
Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt offers the flexibility of working with compressed and uncompressed video in standard definition PAL/NTSC up to full 1080p HD video. Blackmagic Designs Media Express software is included for a complete capture and playback solution without the need for any additional software. Video files are fully compatible with popular editing and design software including Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
Using Intensity Shuttle with Thunderbolt technology combines the quality and speed that videographers demand, said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. Its incredibly exciting when technologies come together and create new opportunities for the way people work with video. The barriers of working with broadcast quality video have gone forever and everyone can create amazing looking work!

Would buy againI use this product in a live scene where I would run a live camera feed into a laptop to do video mixing, and then output to video screens on stage. I really like the easy to use physical interface, and having the ability to route video signals, and also the live output. There is literally no latency with the product which I really do like! I do however wish there was also another Thunderbolt input on the device so we can daisy chain devices as I have to sometimes budget my Thunderbolt and USB ports on my Macbook Pro. The price is good but know you are going to get a product that does a really good job as a capture card!

Great product if you have the right gearIf you are thinking about buying this last minute before a gig/event be warned it may take you some time to get your head around the preference settings in your mac prefs and in also in the black magic capture software. THEY MUST MATCH OR NOTHING WORKS. Also you will have to change the preferences in these two areas every time you change anything which sucks. Hdcp or whatever it's called can also give you some issues getting video in which I had to buy a hdcp stripper to fix this problem. Also you can have issues with colour space support. In short hdmi was a bit of a pain unless it's from another black magic source. Good luck

It works ...providedSimply plugging in an old VHS or Beta machine to convert tapes to digital is not enough. All i got was a picture flashing on and off. I was advised that I would have to go out and buy a new VHS machine with HDMI output. Only then did the box work. My other point is that although there is heaps of documentation, there is little about this particular product. The manual covers the software and dozens of other products, but nothing specific about the Intensity Shuttle. I'm not sure if I would recommend it, but there's no "maybe" box below.

Great product - not for the begginerThis is a great product. Compatible with a range of uses from composite (RCA) through to High Def HDMI. Easy to install, but a little difficult to configure for third party apps. Required a re-install of third party software to recognise the new drivers properly. Once setup works fantastically.

Excellent performance and qualityWe use this device to capture video from our Datavideo SE3000 desk into an iMac via Thunderbolt. We capture 1080i from the desk and the performance is faultless. Be warned however that you need a very fast hard drive to avoid dropped frames. We installed a SSD drive in the machine for the sole purpose of capturing the video.

Does exactly what it's advertised to doI bought this to use as a VJing tool.
So far we've only used the blackmagic unit once - to use with a camera to make a live video feedback loop (camera pointed at projector screen). The blackmagic box was used to dump the footage from the camera onto a computer, then send the signal back out to the projector. It worked well for this purpose and was relatively easy to set up. One thing to remember is to make sure the input settings on the BM software match the output settings of your camera exactly, otherwise you won't get a signal. It was slightly tricky to get set up, but unplugging everything and then plugging it back in seemed to help.
One thing to note for potential VJ users - if you want to use this unit as a live camera input, you're going to run into some difficulties if you only have one thunderbolt port. The output ports on the BM unit cannot be used as an output from your VJ software. The outputs only mirror whatever is coming in on the input. So you'll need to use a different port (thunderbolt, hdmi, whatever) for your projector output. You should also double check that your VJ software will pick up the input signal from the Blackmagic unit, otherwise you'll have to figure out a way to port the video across from the BM capturing software, which might slow your system down to the point where it's not worth it anymore.

Works Great Capturing like a ChampThis capture device is great, upgrading from Canopus capture cards this thing just works. Using Macbook Pro Q1 2012, and captures nicely at 1080 using Wirecast.
I was forewarned on another site, BUY the THUNDERBOLT Cable... so paying it forward... BUY a THUNDERBOLT Cable! it doesn't come with one. It would be terrible to be all excited to play with this and have no cable! :)
