Manfrotto MVK500AM ALU Twin Leg Video Tripod System - The new 500, which replaces the 701HDV, is a lightweight video head featuring a wider platform to accommodate both HDSLR and interchangeable lens camcorder, as well as a sliding plate that ensures the appropriate balance even when shooting with very long lenses.
The 500, the entry level of the Bridging Technology™ series, ensures smooth shots and fine control of up to 5kg of equipment. Its brand new side lock allows fast, secure and easy camera attachment.
KEY BENEFITS
· Beautifully smooth shots The 500 has real fluid cartridges on both pan and tilt axes to ensure that every movement made with the camera is smooth, controlled and precise, avoiding the jarring starts, stops and staggers that mark poor footage. With more usable, beautiful video from every assignment, you’ll be thankful for the fluidity when you get to the post-production and editing of your films.
· Better equipment support and balance The wider shape of HDSLR bodies is solidly supported by the 500’s broader, longer top plate. A design made possible by the structural advantages of Manfrotto’s Bridging Technology™.
The longer sliding plate has a greater range of adjustment to balance the different cameras, lenses and accessory equipment setups.
· Faster, easier and safer to use The new side lock allows the plate to click quickly into the 500 from above. No more fiddly alignment and delicate sliding. No secondary safety button is needed either. The single side lock system also makes it quicker and simpler to lift the camera off the head. Its counterbalance is pre-set to 2.4kg (5.3 lbs), but the 500’s max load is 5kg (11lbs).
The 500 has one Easy Link 3/8” connector to allow an external monitor or other accessory equipment to be fitted.
Weight 3.1kg Max Load 5kg Counter balance 2.4kgs Min Height 67.5cm Max Height 154cm
Highly recomended for the DSLR and Video Camera shooters

Looking good
I've only had the tripod for a short time and, with my new camera, am in trialling mode. I'm just getting the knack of using the base plate with my camera as it's not a slide in mechanism the control for managing the quick release mechanism needs to be undone to the correct amount for the plate to slip in easily then it's really easy so mastering the feel of that control is important. The head's movement is smooth and easily managed. Looking forward to many opportunities to use this tripod.

Nice light tripod with good fluid head
Quite light tripod with good fluid head for a low price, not quite as good as miller solo dv but about a third of the price

Excellent pan and tilt action
Light and sturdy tripod with smooth pan and tilt action. The quick release system initially worried me, but I have found it to be just as safe as it is quick.

Great size for DSLR, affordable
Really happy with this tripod for the money I paid, awesome value. Most of my work is as a wedding videographer, and I use GH4s with Panasonic glass so my camera setup is pretty light! It's perfect for this, I was previously using the 190prob photo tripod with the same 500 head, but it was horrible to work with, I just couldn't afford much at the time. Really happy I went with this tripod as when I'm running around a wedding I want stable, clear shots, with the ability to pick up the tripod, move quickly to another spot and set up without the legs sticking, or making any noise. It's nice and light, It collapses nicely, I'm 6ft so my camera screen is pretty much in front of my face at the highest setup.

Great for travelling light
This tripod is quite light and easy to carry. The plate and receiver combo are a bit different... the plate drops in at an angle rather than sliding in. It was a bit clunky at first but I have the hang of it now. The head is smooth and easy to level, but the bubble is tiny and hidden away under the receiver. This is by no means the best tripod I've owned and used, but it's great value, especially if you work in the field a lot and weight is important.
