When you’ve finished recording you can easily mount the card straight into a laptop, ready for editing. You can even color grade direct from the card with the included DaVinci Resolve Lite! SD cards are commonly available and can be formatted for either HFS+ or exFAT, making them compatible with either Mac OS X or Windows.

Using DaVinci Resolve Lite you can color correct files natively or transcode them into a different file format to suit your post production workflow.

Love these little cameras!I use these to shoot interviews, vlogs and general cutaways. It's a great little camera, small and handy and gives a great picture quality. Love that it shoots RAW and ProRes422. Perfect for smaller jobs, B cam on bigger projects and for taking travelling to shoot personal videos. Love it.

Great Product, great customer service!Great product! This camera is being used to multiple productions, both professional and home projects. The size is perfect for the corners that just can't fit huge rigs, and the colour grading is perfect. Built in audio, isn't so great. Lack of external buttons, but still gets the job done well.

Stunning images from a tiny cameraFor such a tiny camera with a small sensor, the image quality even in ProRes blows my 5D Mark III's native video out of the water. Image detail is crisp, organic and has great dynamic range for colour grading. Using FilmConvert in FCPX I'm getting beautiful results.
The camera's firmware is a work in progress and lacks some essential tools like audio meters and storage remaining to name two. Blackmagic Design are very aware of the requests for improved functionality, however, and it's only a matter of time.
The batteries are small so you will need at least a 3-5 to get you through a morning of power-conscious shooting.
64GB cards will get you between 37 and 45mins of footage in ProRes depending on frame rate. However, there is no slow motion which may be an issue for some projects.
To me, the image quality makes all the flaws and missing functionality worth bearing, however. Don't regret the purchase.

An exciting productBeautiful picture quality from such a small camera. You'll need to buy many accessories. LCD screen is hard to see in outdoor light, so a viewfinder/loupe is necessary and adds a good extra contact point. Hand held shots are tough without stabilised lenses. Lots of post work required to grade pictures - but thats fun for me!

Massive power in a small packageWhat an incredible camera!
I bought this as an introduction in to 10-bit and 12-bit cameras and their workflow (the pocket cinema camera will be able to shoot 12-bit raw very soon!). It is designed as a run & gun camera, but realistically is a camera with post-production in mind.
As of October, the BMPCC shoots 10-bit ProRes HQ. An incredible codec. Any shooters that are used to working in compressed 8-bit video land will notice the difference straight away! The dynamic range is incredible.
It is not a perfect camera. It sucks battery life like the hungry monster it is, and lacks some control that many others are used to such as ability to format/delete clips in camera and audio monitoring.
But once you learn the workarounds, this thing should me much more expensive, and much bigger, but it isn't! Yay!
I think that this camera is perfect for those looking to step up their post-production and cinematography skills beyond a standard DSLR.

Mind blowing.I waited until I used this is a real-world scenario to write a review. Last weekend I shot a film on location with two Blackmagic Pockets and a Canon 7D as a back-up.
Our intention was to run a multi-cam set up and do cutaways with the 7D (for artistic reasons) but most of the batteries we ordered didn't arrive so we had the original battery and a couple of Hong Kong made generics. Luckily we used some Rokkor lenses, which ended up being a lot more friendly on the battery life as they don't need to draw power to focus. The Olympus M43 lenses we used stole 20% of the battery over several shots. The Minolta 24mm Rokkor extended the battery life substantially as it doesn't need to have the camera turned on the focus (we used a tape measure!). If we had been solely using the Olympus lenses (9-18mm and 45mm) we would have had to abort filming early.
I don't recommend generic batteries as the percent meter freaks out. Don't be one of those people who complain about something you have control over. I'll be using my generics as extreme circumstance back-ups and using the Nikon batteries I've ordered. There are several battery packs on the market and several more slated to come out so I will be getting one of those for on-location shoots, too.
We didn't use screen hoods as there isn't really anything out yet that was easily obtainable before filming but I would recommend getting one for outside shoots. As with every LCD-only camera. No surprises there. Inside, the screen is perfect. It's nice and clear and doesn't reflect glare from lights.
We used a fair few SD cards on the BM's but only one 8GB Compact Flash for the 7D over two days. So the BM footage is truly humungous. It looks SPECTACULAR in Final Cut. The latitude of the 'film' is so great that I could pull the sliders of the colour wheel all the way down and it didn't disappear entirely into black. I could have put another colour wheel on it and done the same again. It's really hard to over-expose the footage. We filmed in very bright situations and the footage just looks awesome. We're not professionals but our footage makes us looks pretty close!
We are getting the Atomos Ninja's to record footage to so that there is no need to swap out SD cards. We didn't buy these as a compact solution, we bought the BM as a more professional solution that we could actually afford. So accessories making the rig bigger don't faze us. If you want a compact rig just buy heaps of SD cards and batteries.
I can't really fault this as I am not a pixel peeper, I am a filmmaker. And we managed to film everything the way we wanted. Which is miles above any other camera we have used, including professional cameras such as the Sony EX-3. It's versatile, easy to use, very few cons that aren't actually cons at all. The file size is big because it's great quality. Can't wait for .raw capability to be released.
