Comments about Vidpro XM-L Lavalier Condensor Microphone for Cameras and Smartphones:

I purchased this to use when recording video recordings of lectures to be presented online. We could not afford a wireless option and took a punt on this product given it was inexpensive and had a cable length that was guaranteed to meet our needs.

My first impression was that it produced a surprisingly good recording with minimal noise, definitely of high enough quality for our purposes.

One caveat I have discovered is that it is, as might be expected, susceptible to interference. We are using it with a Sony camcorder, and it works wonderfully IF the camcorder is running on battery. When the power adapter is plugged into the camera, the sound recorded is entirely unusable (very high level of noise). This may or may not occur with all cameras, and if you can use the camera solely on battery, it is not a problem. I have not experimented with other options (e.g. sound recorder, or other cameras) so cannot comment on these.

This mic worked great for making our first online video for our online store. To keep the budget down we decided to use the HD camera in an iPhone and this microphone worked very well with it. It recorded clearly and the extra long cable meant we did not have to muck about with recording sound and vision onto two devices and sync them later. It plugged straight into the iPhone and worked brilliantly. Very happy happy with this inexpensive and good quality lmicrophone.

A great little addition to a small budget production set-up. This nifty little microphone provides clear sound in even the windiest of days and is so easy to unpack and hide away under a shirt or on the back of a belt.
Connect this product to a smart phone with a sound recorder and you pretty much have that $1000 radio mic, with no distance restrictions.
The only thing which bothered me was having to keep the cable ties for a tidy and knot-free cable, but apart from that, this device is a great addition.

                          Actually I have 3 questions:
                          1) Can you plug the microphone direct to a DSLR with 3mm socket (Canon 5D Mk iii) and will it work with an external sound recorded (I have a Zoom microphone recorded with 3mm socket)?
                          2) Is it possible to order an extension cable with this mike - just in case it is needed?
                          3) If ordered today (Tuesday 23/8/16) would you be able to deliver to Kensington Melbourne (3031) by Tuesday 30th at the latest?

It will improve your sound - don't forget though, it's a lapel microphone. It'll pick up mostly the source where it's attached to. It'll provide much better isolation & improved frequency response - but if you're trying to pick up general sound in any area - a shotgun style microphone would be a good choice.

                            Hi Bruce,

It'll certainly give you a much better, direct audio feed. It comes with a decent cable length - so you can clip this onto her & shoot from a distance with the iPad. Audio will be run through the iPad & therefore is already synced to your footage.

Can this be used to enhance clarity of a telephone call? For instance, if I wanted to listen in via a telephone call to a miked-up lecturer giving a lecture?

Well this is a lapel mic, with a clip on for you Shirt or tie. You would need to hold this close to the source in order for it to pick it up. This is something That you would need to modify for the purpose.

I can't find anyone addressing this pretty daft question on any of the forums... But is this supposed to be compatible with a Macbook Pro? I'm just trying to test out the audio quality on my computer before using it for its intended purposes and it seems that no matter which port I stick it in, or what setting I'm switched to, the computer doesn't sense the device.

It need a standard Microphone input jack, now it needs to be switched to smartphone off mode. Then you need to check your setting in the mac audio console to make sure you input is enable, because as default its not..
