The wireless receiver of the UWP-D Series can be attached to camcorders or interchangeable-lens cameras that have an MI (Multi-Interface) shoe using the MI shoe adaptor SMAD-P3. This eliminates the need for connecting cables. By using the MI shoe adaptor, audio signals can be transmitted from the wireless receiver to a camera. In addition, the wireless receiver can get power from the camera, and the camera can control power ON/OFF, unifying power management.

The SMAD-P3 is applicable to XDCAM Camcorder PXW-X180/ PXW-X160, interchangeable lens digital camera α7/ α7R/ α7S/ α99, Handycam / NEX-VG900/ NEX-VG30, and Cyber-shot DSC-RX10. (as of July 2014)

  • No need for separate XLR cable Using an MI Shoe connection, the audio signal from a UWP-D11 or UWP-D12 wireless microphone package can be input from the wireless microphone receiver to the camera without an XLR cable.
  • Power can be supplied by camera Power can be switched on and off from the camera/camcorder.
  • Accessories attached to the MI Shoe can be controlled by the camera Electric interface in its mechanical attachment provides flexible connection without need for XLR cable.
  • Power can be supplied by camera The power can be supplied from the camera to the receiver and a battery is not required for the receiver operation. So, for example, if the HVL-LBPC video light is attached to the MI Shoe, video light power can be switched on and off from the camcorder.
  • Compatibility with cold shoe accessories The mechanical shape of MI Shoe has a compatibility with conventional cold shoe, and a conventional cold shoe accessory can be also attached to the MI shoe terminal.

Rated 1 out of 1 by from I'll be returning this unit as soon as possible. I bought this interface so I could power my Sony UWP-11 from the camera (FS7 & A7RII) rather than constantly changing the AA batteries in the receiver.
Unfortunately, when the Sony UWP-11 receiver is powered by the camera's battery, the sound is unusable due the hiss and high pitch squeals created by the SMAD-P3 circuitry. If the receiver is powered by AA batteries the noise goes away.
