Comments about Maha Powerex MH-C9000 WizardOne Battery Charger & Analyzer:

Purchased this charger based on the recommendation of a friend. These charges are said to prolong the life of rechargeable batteries by allowing the user to select the most appropriate charge rates. Also has an excellent break in mode.

Overall I am very happy with this charger however there are two things that annoy me. Firstly there is no option to dim or turn off the backlighting. During the day this is not really a problem, but at night, the unit is very bright and can not really be used in a bedroom for example. The other thing is that it doesn't have a built in power supply but instead uses a separate step down transformer. If both of these issues were rectified I would happily give this unit 5 stars.

I use this charger for everyday recharging of AA & AAA batteries. We go through disposables far to quickly given how many toys my son plays with during the day. Buying a good charger like this and a decent set of eneloops is the way to go. This is a very efficient and convenient charger that is easy to use. No more excessive wastage and better longevity for single charges now!

It's not brand specific with the batteries. This info straight from their page:

Charges 1-4 AA or AAA NiMH or NiCD batteries via 4 independent slots. Supports batteries with capacities of 100-20,000mAh

                Maha Powerex MH-C9000

I have heard that there has been a component upgrade to eliminate the loud high pitched squeal issue that pre late 2010 units were notorious of.

Is your stock of the later fixed 2011-12 issue and are units covered under warranty if the are of the loud high pitch squeal variety.

I ask because I have heard the loud squealing units in action and it would prevent me from sleeping, hence purchasing!

Fantastic product, just need to know...

                Hi,
I am interested in this product but, buying from the internet, I need to be sure that it is certified for use in Australia.

I believe that it needs the Australian C-Tick. Not sure what other approvals it needs but I do know that Battery chargers do need Australian Approval to be sold or used in Australia.

Can you or your distributer confirm that it is certified in Australia?

                Regards

What is the correct CHARGE and DISCHARGE rates for AA 2700 mAH batteries in the Maha Powerex
                charger.
                Asked on 12/1/2012 by Anonymous

                1 answer

                • Staff Reviewer

                  A:

We recommend 0.5C as a standard charge rate. That is 0.5 multiplied by the battery capacity. Here is an example:

                  0.5C charge rate x 1000mAh battery capacity = 500mA charge rate.

If you are in a hurry, you can use a charge rate up to 1C without concern of damage, but at 0.5C charge rate you will get a more complete battery charge. A slower charge will result in a slightly higher capacity, and it is easier for the battery to absorb the energy at a slower rate, which will contribute to a longer battery life. So why not charge even slower and get more charge capacity and more battery cycles from the rechargeable batteries?

Using a slower charge rate has a diminishing marginal benefit. Going any slower than 0.5C does not result in much difference to energy capacity or battery longevity.Futhermore, we recommend a minimum charge rate of 0.3C. Below 0.3C it is more difficult for the MH-C9000 to detect the change in voltage and know when to terminate the charge.

As a guide, here is a chart for our main battery models:

Battery Minimum charge rate Recommended charge rate Maximum charge rate
                  AAA IMEDION 800mAh 300mA 400mA 800mA
                  AAA Powerex 1000mAh 300mA 500mA 1000mA
                  AA IMEDION 2100mAh 600mA 1000mA 2000mA
                  AA Powerex 2700mAh 800mA 1300mA 2000mA
