The Rode VXLR is an adapter that lets you connect a mic equipped with a 3.5mm TRS connector to the XLR input of a professional camera, recorder, or mixing console. The VXLR is terminated by a 3.5mm female TRS connector at one end and an XLR male connector at the other.
Used with the rode wireless microphone system and field recorder with other recording devices. Great build quality, no complaints.

Such a simple idea, yet so handy :)
We have 2 Rodelink Filmmaker Kits (wireless lavalier microphones) and I use a Zoom H6 to bring various sources in, including the microphones - there was no easy fix for going 3.5mm to XLR without ungainly long cords, and this solved the issue without adding length !

Does what it says on the box
Used to connect a cheap lav mic to a Tascam DR100MkII due to lack of 3.5mm mic level input. Works fine.

Handy device - small is good
This allows me to plug my Rode VideoMic Pro into one of the two XLR ports on my Canon XA10. Better than using the MIC port. I need two mics - the Rode and a Sony wireless into XLRs.

RODE DON'T RIDE WITHOUT ONE!
Without one of these input from mics into xlr attached to video camera is impossible/difficult. Setup time is quick and sound quality excellent as expected from a Rode product as this is. Forethought required if needing one- cannot be bought just anywhere local in Queensland. Not expensive so buy 2-these things are cylindrical and easy to lose if dropped in the dark

Rode microphones and accessories
I am a documentary film maker working with renowned Director, Pat Fiske, in remote and rugged areas for the Brain Revolution Project. In the past 3 years we have filmed in Ladakh, D. R. Congo, Northern Uganda, South Africa, the USA and other countries. Rode microphone equipment that we purchased from Videoguys has never let us down. Our sound guy is Mal Green (former musician from world famous rock band Split Enz). Mal used 3 x Rode NTG mikes to record the singing of Congolese women from various trauma crisis groups in the Eastern DRC war zone. Thank you Videoguys for great products [...]

A Critical Item
Your kiding! How can I get excited about writing a review on this.
Well, A tyre on your car is useless unless you have a valve in it. That's how important this connector is. If you don't have one when you need it, you're whole job can fall apart. It's always in my bag and one less thing I have to worry about when preparing for a job.
I want to use this to connect a 3.5mm cable from my mixer's stereo output into a IFB transmitter that has a XLR-Female input. Will this work for that?

Hi Nik,
This product will literally take a 3.5mm stereo input & convert it to a male XLR - providing there's nothing non standard about the XLR input on your transmitter - there's no reason it wouldn't work.

Q
would this allow me to connect a rode videomicro to a saramonic smartrig?

Hi Jason,
Unfortunately by connecting a VXLR to the end of that microphone - it won't actually pass on the required voltage to power up the microphone.
If you've got a battery powered microphone, such as the Rode Videomic - you could attach the VXLR & it will work.
Alternatively you could get a professional shotgun microphone like an NTG1, 2, 3 or 4 & they will all plug directly into the Smartrig with an XLR cable & get the phantom power straight from that unit. Only issue is that those microphones are a lot more money.
If you needed any further guidance, please don't hesitate to call us.
Q
Is this designed to work with the RODE Link Newsshooter wireless system? Have been told it does, however the Newsshooter comes under Lavialier systems, and this says it doesn't suit Rode Lavalier mics.

For the output of the receiver this will work.
It will allow you to output the receiver into a camera that has XLR input. That's what people would using it for.
Q
I'd like to use these to connect both my Videomic Pro and my Rode Smartlav+ (with SC-3 TRRS-TRS adaptor) to my Zoom H5 while recording ambient sound with the Zoom's XY Mics. Is this possible?

Hi there,
It will support the Videomic pro - but it cannot pass the power through to the VXLR once adapting the Smarlav +.
You can, however, plug the Smartlav+ with the SC3 connected to it, directly into the 3.5mm connector of your Zoom H5.
Q
I have a filmmaker kit but want the output of the receiver to go into a soundcraft deck mixing unit. there are already mics on the system that need phantom power. I tried a purpose built cable - TRS to XLR, but it didn't work at all, even if the phantom power was off. Would this adaptor work for this task?

Hi Clinton,
Yes, this is the adapter that Rode recommends & that our customers have been using to get the output into an XLR.
Q
I just bought the rodelynk filmmaker kit and a rode reporter mic... is there anyway I can connect the reporter mic to the filmaker kit transmitter? or does it need phantom power? If it does how can I get some kind of power adaptor thing?
Asked by jezza

Verified Reply - Sales TeamHi Jezza, The Reporter mic doesn't require phantom power - but I've been told that the transmitter pack doesn't provide enough "Juice" to get a workable volume level out of the reporter mic. Rode will be bringing out an XLR transmitter sometime in the new year which will simply plug into the XLR connector of the Reporter mic (or any other XLR mic you want to use). Don't have an exact date but keep an eye out for it.
Q
I brought this hoping it would work with the Rode SmartLav. It doesn't. What do I need to connect the two? Getting slightly overwhelmed by the total lack of industry standards in mini-jacks - 3 pole, 4 pole with two different formats and 5 poles with two different formats. Makes it hard to put a versatile kit together!!!!!

Verified Reply - MichaelThis item does not suit Rode Smart Lav or Rode lavalier microphones. Its only intended for the rode Videomic and Videomic pro. The smart lav microphone, is intended for smart phone use only since it requires power form the phone to operate. we don't have an XLR adepter at this stage to do this conversion. You need to purchase something like the Vidpro XML microphone which is switchable to use with a camcorder standard microphone input, then you can use your vxlr adapter.
