Manfrotto MVM500A Alu Fluid Video Monopod System with 500 Head - The new 500, which replaces the 701HDV, is a lightweight video head featuring a wider platform to accommodate both HDSLR and interchangeable lens camcorder, as well as a sliding plate that ensures the appropriate balance even when shooting with very long lenses.

The 500, the entry level of the Bridging Technology™ series, ensures smooth shots and fine control of up to 5kg of equipment. Its brand new side lock allows fast, secure and easy camera attachment.

KEY BENEFITS

· Beautifully smooth shots
The 500 has real fluid cartridges on both pan and tilt axes to ensure that every movement made with the camera is smooth,
controlled and precise, avoiding the jarring starts, stops and staggers that mark poor footage. With more usable, beautiful video from
every assignment, you’ll be thankful for the fluidity when you get to the post-production and editing of your films.

· Better equipment support and balance
The wider shape of HDSLR bodies is solidly supported by the 500’s broader, longer top plate. A design made possible by the
structural advantages of Manfrotto’s Bridging Technology™.

The longer sliding plate has a greater range of adjustment to balance the different cameras, lenses and accessory equipment
setups.

· Faster, easier and safer to use
The new side lock allows the plate to click quickly into the 500 from above. No more fiddly alignment and delicate sliding.
No secondary safety button is needed either. The single side lock system also makes it quicker and simpler to lift the camera off the
head. Its counterbalance is pre-set to 2.4kg (5.3 lbs), but the 500’s max load is 5kg (11lbs).

The 500 has one Easy Link 3/8” connector to allow an external monitor or other accessory equipment to be fitted.

Weight 2.1kg
Max Load 5kg
Counter balance 2.4kgs
Min Height 77cm
Max Height 200.5cm

Great monopod, perfect for using with lightweight DSLR or similar cameras. I use mine with a GH4 and BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera and it allows you to get steady, fluid footage while being able to quickly repostion.

One potential con is that the head does not pan independantly, you have to use the ball joint in the legs to swivel the camera. A pretty minor complaint and actually doesn't really cause any issues in the use.

I would highly recommend getting a viewfinder or loupe of some sort if you are going to use a DSLR - makes using the monopod for video a lot smoother.

For quick setup and shooting you cannot go past a monopod, but that fluid base on this model does not give nice smooth pan shots at the best of times.

Equally annoyed that the head is not fully fluid for the pans (due to the rubbish one on the base). I should have done better research, as I was hoping I would be able to pull it off and use on my slider..not.. Will just need to buy another head down the track.

Anyhow, to get a new tripod, I did ask you guys for advice and got a shocking response, like none apart from a reccomendation of a manfrotto tripod with the same average head as used on the monopod..(which I am so happy I did not get).

Delivery and price was good, but 2nd time dealing with you guys was far from ideal.

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Alu Fluid Video Monopod System with 500 Head:

When you buy any product, all you want is for it to work, and the Manfrotto MVM500A works, I use it for video work as a TV news camera man , great in the scrum around court, or when a tripod is not viable, but you still need stable shots, Best suited for small to medium size video cameras or DSLRs .Camera is very easy to attach and detach from the head. .

Very smooth operation , just a small squirt of WD-40 on the ball at the base, as it was a bit tight from new.

BRILLIANT FOR ANYWHERE YOU NEED STABILITY IN A CONFINED SPACE, SMALL CHURCHES ETC, I USE A 2.5KG VIDEO CAMERA ON THIS WITH EASE.
THE ONLY CON IS THE BALL JOINT WAS STICKY WHEN IT WAS NEW HOWEVER A SMALL SPRAY OF WD40 FIXED THAT.

Guys, I emailed you in relation to getting a new tripod recently, was amazed how bad the service was in regards to just getting some purchasing advice.

As I got no reply to my 2nd lot of questions, I ended up buying a Sachler ACE tripod instead from Lemanc, who gave great service and advice. You lost me on that one count.

Comments about Manfrotto MVM500A Alu Fluid Video Monopod System with 500 Head:

I needed support for my HDCams (Canon XF100 and XF300s) to enable me to move quickly but achieve steady results. This achieves that very well with both cameras (although too much run-and-gun with the XF300 would require more gym sessions!)

Can the 500 series head be removed from the monopod and replaced with a different monopod head? or is the head fixed to monopod. I'm looking at this monopod with the aim of eventually changing the head.
