Easy to use wireless system with great sound quality
I bought this kit for my Sony PXW-X70 using it for Web, Corporate and ENG work.
After selling my G3 kit to finance this, I was concerned that - on reading some reviews of the AVX - that I would be sorry. After my first on the job use, I discovered I had no need to worry as it worked perfectly.
Some others' complaints:
1) MP3-like sound - I didn't find this the case. Yes, the sound may have more of a top-end than the G3 system, but I liked it. Sometimes I felt the G3 with the ME2 mic was a little muddy.
2) Distorted audio - Make sure the receiver's levels are kept to the minimum, which means adjusting it to show 1 of the 4 LED lights. I did this (remembering you can't adjust the transmitter's levels) and adjusted the level on my camera to suit and it worked perfectly.
3) Dropouts - well I used this in a golf club corporate environment in Sydney and had no issues whatsoever. I was only about 20 feet from the lectern, though.
4) Auto Gain Control concerns - after using this system today I found no noticeable changes in the audio levels as levels changed. If there were any changes internally then they are incredibly smooth.
Other likes:
1) VERY easy to use - turn on and pair, plug in the receiver and that's it. No more channels to worry about, no more setting levels on the transmitter and no more cables between the receiver and the camera. Love it.
2) Nice, clean sound.
3) Compact size - especially the receiver
4) No more AA batteries!! Yes, that means no backup from the local store, but if you buy a spare battery for both the transmitter and the receiver, then you should never have an issue running out of power. You can also power from USB!
5) Receiver turns on and off with camera saving batteries
Dislikes:
1) No light in the transmitter screen - not sure why they did this, but I guess there are no settings to fiddle with on the transmitter.
2) The 48v Phantom XLR power only switches the receiver on and off - doesn't power or charge it
Overall an excellent unit!
