This does everything that I have come to expect from a Rode product. Good gain without needing to fiddle with program settings.
It's also fairly light without feeling in anyway cheaply made.

Comments about Rode VideoMic Me - Directional microphone for Smartphones:

I can hear from direct front and within 45 degree area but nearly no sound from the side or back. Really impressive result. Audio monitoring from headphone jack works well. Both TRRS and TRS (3.5 mm) works perfectly. TRRS headphone that contains built-in microphone (eg Apple earbud) does not add the sound in it. Only sound through Videomic Me will be recorded. Audio quality is as good as Smartlav+ when I record in close distance.

How much play/adjustability is there in the mic? I want to buy a few to use with ipads that have cases.

        A:

These Mics are made to go pretty tight against the iPad or I phone, so there is not much room to allow for a case. It's hard to know which you getting one and trying it..

    • Q:

Hi, what is the range of the mic? How close does it need to be to the person speaking?

        A:

        Hi ASI,

It's a directional microphone - therefore it's designed for reasonably long distances. They don't publish stats unfortuantely - but you don't have to be standing right next to the microphone for it to pick you up well.

        Hi there,

According to Rode, it "should" work - there is no 100% guarantee. If it's like most Samsung devices, it'll work just fine. They were pretty confident without being certain.
